Best Man’s Speech – Finding Examples

One helpful tip I can give when it comes to a writing best man’s speech is to make use of any examples you can find, both from the internet and from memories of past weddings you’ve attended. Actually, it’s also a good idea to ask friends and family about best man’s speeches they remember hearing, as this will help you to decipher not only what other best men have spoke of, but what facets of their speeches the audience actually enjoyed and remembered.

Of course, while you may be able to find some good examples to model your speech after, you want to make your speech as unique and memorable as possible by tailoring it to your specific audience (as well as the bride and the groom). It’s important to add in your own stories about the bride and the groom, and of course a few jokes in order to keep the audience engaged and to make the speech memorable. While some best mans speeches simply drone on about the benefits of marriage, those are generally considered dry and boring unless they are peppered with interesting stories and jokes that relate to the now married couple.

Also, you may want to consider coordinating your best man’s speech with the grooms speech in order to make some jokes that are congruent in both. This is a great way to give the audience a laugh and play off each other. Two or three jokes is a good amount in each speech, as the speeches should also involve some touching and serious elements, and of course include your well wishes for the bride and the groom.

One thing that helped me to write my best man wedding toast was this best man wedding speech guide, as it outlined ideas and examples that could help someone like me, who hadn’t been to very many weddings, write a speech that fit in well with the rest of the festivities. It’s important to gather all the best man speech tips you can, as you want your speech to be both very classy as well as tastefully humorous. It’s always important to remember not to go too far with the humor, as both the bride and groom’s families will be present. My rule of thumb when it comes to humor in a wedding speech is that you shouldn’t say anything that would upset grandma!

Best Man Toasts – Funny Yet Respectful

When giving a best man wedding speech, I think one thing all speakers will agree on is that they want at least part of their speech to be humorous. However, they’ll also likely also agree that coming up with jokes that are both funny and tasteful is one of the hardest parts of writing a best man’s speech. I mean, while we might be able to think of many crass or embarrassing jokes, we have to remember that the bride and groom’s entire family is likely present, and so we don’t want our best man toast to contain elements that might offend grandma!

Of course, we don’t want to omit humor altogether as nobody enjoys a dry speech, and we want to keep the audience engaged in what the best man is saying. What I suggest doing with best man toasts is writing the speech first without jokes, and instead simply emphasizing the positive points about the groom and the bride and telling stories of your experiences with them. Then, once you have a rough draft written try to pepper a few jokes into it. This will ensure that the speech is not too humor centered (remember, you’re e not doing a comedy skit), but also has enough funny parts to keep the audience entertained.

Also, remember to engage the wedding guests by making frequent eye contact with a variety of people, rather than focusing yourself solely on the bride and groom, as this will help to keep everybody’s attention.

Getting Started On A Best Man’s Speech

When my buddy Mark told me he would be getting married, I had no doubt that I’d be his best man. I mean, we’ve been best friends since elementary school so it was only natural. And while I was excited about planning the bachelor party and having a good time at the wedding, it took me awhile to realize that I’d be expected to give a best man toast.

Now, public speaking has never been my strong point, as I’m not always the most eloquent guy, but I wanted to be able to give a best man’s speech that would make my buddy proud and amuse the other wedding guests. Just like speeches I had seen delivered by best men before.

However, I didn’t really know how to start and so it took me quite awhile to get my speech going in the right direction. The main thing that helped was writing down descriptive words of my friend Mark, and after I had compiled a big list, I started to think of the different times that he had displayed those characteristics. Doing this helped me to remember a variety of real stories (some of them funny, some not but don’t worry about being funny yet) that really best described who Mark is as a person.

The most important advice I can give others who are writing a best man’s wedding speech is to just start writing things down, even if it’s a word here and a word there. It doesn’t have to flow when you’re just getting started, as you can piece everything together and expand on specific points later on.
